Prime season Possible Avoid

The summer window (mid-June to mid-September) is when huts operate and the Goûter route is in condition. Late season increases rockfall in the Grand Couloir; heatwaves can close the route.

The mountain

Mont Blanc via the Goûter route is technically moderate — cramponed snow slopes and an airy final ridge — but it is long, high, and weather-exposed, and it punishes poor acclimatisation. Most parties spend several days on nearby 3,000–4,000 m peaks first, then climb hut-to-summit in two days. The Grand Couloir stone-fall zone demands an early, efficient crossing.

Safety & navigation

The Goûter route sleeps in staffed huts (Tête Rousse, Goûter) — meals and blankets provided. Book huts months ahead; the glacier above is crevassed. A starting point generated from this climb's difficulty, altitude, and length — not a substitute for your guide's list or your own judgment. Confirm what your operator supplies before you buy or rent.
