Prime season Possible Avoid

A short mid-summer window (July–early August). K2's weather is notoriously less forgiving than Everest's, and good summit windows some years simply never come.

The mountain

K2 concedes nothing: the Abruzzi Spur climbs steep rock (House's Chimney, the Black Pyramid) and the serac-threatened Bottleneck at 8,200 m, with no easy line anywhere on the mountain. It is listed here as the far pole of the scale — an objective for climbers with multiple 8,000 m expeditions behind them, not a goal to filter toward casually. The Baltoro approach beneath Trango and Gasherbrum is the most dramatic walk-in in mountaineering.

Safety & navigation

One of the hardest 8,000ers — sustained technical climbing on fixed rope. An ascender is essential; oxygen is arranged through the operator. A starting point generated from this climb's difficulty, altitude, and length — not a substitute for your guide's list or your own judgment. Confirm what your operator supplies before you buy or rent.
