July and August only; even then, storms and deep cold sweep the upper mountain with little warning.
Pik Lenin's normal route has no hard climbing, which is precisely its trap: at 6,000–7,100 m, moderate snow slopes become a war of attrition against cold, wind, and hypoxia. Success takes three weeks of rotations between camps, crevasse-rescue competence for the glacier, and the discipline to turn around. For aspiring 8,000 m climbers it is the standard proving ground.
