Mid-June to early October, once the summit ridge is snow-free and huts are open. Summer weekends are extremely busy; go midweek or in September.
Triglav is a rite of passage for Slovenes and a perfect first 'almost-climbing' summit: steel cables and pegs protect the exposed limestone ridges, so a fit hiker with a via-ferrata set and a calm head can reach the top over two hut-based days. The Julian Alps scenery — white karst, deep green valleys — is out of proportion to the modest altitude.
